Ben Siegal

POETRY BY BEN SIEGAL

THE BLUEBERRY HAD A DOG INSIDE

The blueberry had a dog inside

I should have known

it was too big

to be any old blueberry

But I was so hungry

with no one around

I took a bite

then another

and another

The snout poked out

through the hole Iā€™d made

I kept eating until

I had freed him completely

a small black dog

a mutt

paws sticky with

juices from inside the fruit

He barked twice and ran away
